How to Boost Your Happy Hormones Over Lockdown
After care advice from me is almost always tailored to my clients specific goals and what we found during their treatment session. But I think the best advice encourages a healthy mind as well as body. Doing things that encourage producing your “happy” chemicals are some of the best self care you can do no matter what external circumstances arise.
Drink water
Not just because it’s cheap, relatively easy, and good for you. But because nurturing your body from the inside out will no doubt make you feel better physically, and mentally you’ll feel confident knowing you’re doing your body good. (Dopamine is produced when we do self care, or eat food for example).
Get some fresh air, even if it’s only around the block
If it’s raining, take a brolly or wear your wellies and jump in a puddle like you’re a kid again. Extra marks if you make yourself laugh while doing it! Serotonin is a mood stabiliser and is produced when we go for a walk. And endorphins are natural pain killers produced when we laugh or exercise.
Stretch
Reach your arms up as high as you can then reach down to touch the ground or as close as you can, breathing deeply while you do. (More endorphins with the exercise!)
Lastly, call a friend or family member and give them a compliment
Oxytocin is our love hormone, and is produced when we give compliments!
And when we can see each other again, a great massage will be ready for you on the other side of this 🙂
