Mike Filipo is a fully qualified and insured massage therapist with more than two decades of experience. He began his foray to becoming a massage therapist when as a 5 year old boy, his father asked him to walk up and down his back and shoulders to help relieve the tension he was experiencing. From that moment, Mike appreciated the benefits of body work healing and many years later went on to complete a massage therapy degree to make a career out of his passion.
Originally from New Zealand, Mike studied and trained close to home at New Zealand College of Massage and graduated with a Diploma in Sports and Therapeutic Massage and a Certificate in Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT). This intensive program covered anatomy, physiology, pathology, theory and technique, and more than 100 hours of clinical training. Upon completing his degree, Mike was granted certified membership status of the NZATMP, now called Massage New Zealand, which is the only governing body for professional massage therapists there.
Mike has extensive work experience with numerous sports teams ranging from Rugby League, Touch Rugby, Provincial Softball teams and Rugby Union. He has also had the opportunity to work alongside other health care practitioners associated with team sports such as physiotherapists, osteopaths, and chiropractors, from whom Mike credits his confidence and clinical approach.
His massage approach incorporates a clinical understanding of the body and how pain can manifest, with a holistic treatment that is effective while being enjoyable. He is comfortable utilising a range of techniques such as neuromuscular technique, myofascial release, trigger point therapy and assisted stretching to assist with healing and recovery. Mike has a calming energy and presence which he combines with professionalism and an attention to providing exceptional client care.
In addition to being a massage therapist, Mike is an avid sports enthusiast. In 2022 he participated in the 2022 World Sprint Outrigging Championship held at Dorney Lake, he holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and of course continues to support his beloved rugby team- The New Zealand All Blacks.
Mike is fully qualified and insured in Deep Tissue, Sport, and Relaxation Massage.

Brilliant deep tissue massage with Mike at The Soma Room. I like a very firm massage and I think this was the best I've ever had! Not only did it feel amazing and release tension/help with muscle soreness from exercises, he was very good at explaining issues he found and how I might stretch and self-care for them afterwards.L.
